Supergiant Games’ Hades Takes Home Game of the Year
The votes are in and a fan-favorite, independent game finds favor with the gods and goddesses of Olympus at the 24th D.I.C.E. (Design, Innovate, Communicate, Entertain) Awards. Hosted by the Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences (AIAS), this year’s Game of the Year was awarded to Hades, a critically-acclaimed game from indie developer and publisher, Supergiant Games, which follows Zagreus as he battles his way out of the Underworld.
Today, the Academy membership honored games in 23 award categories. Hades led the ceremony with five awards, Ghost of Tsushima had four wins, and both The Last of Us Part II and Half-Life: Alyx nabbed two. Other top honorees include Microsoft Flight Simulator for Strategy/Simulation Game of the Year; Marvel’s Spider-Man: Miles Morales for Outstanding Achievement in Character, Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 for Sports Game of the Year; FINAL FANTASY VII REMAKE for Role-Playing Game of the Year; and Animal Crossing: New Horizons for Family Game of the Year, among others.
“The 24th Annual D.I.C.E. Awards ushered in a new way for us to celebrate our nominees through candid and thoughtful discussions, where they could share their achievements with one another like never before,” says Meggan Scavio, Academy of Interactive Arts & Sciences President. “On behalf of the Academy, I want to thank all of the amazing 2020 nominees for granting us their valuable time and congratulate the winners, all chosen by their peers.”
